Zunka bhakar / झुणका भाकर |
Zunka or Jhunka is a vegetarian traditional Indian dish prepared in Maharashtra , Goa and North Karnataka. It is essentially a chickpea flour porridge. It is also known by the name of pithla or pithle. Its ingredients are gram flour (besan), mixed with water to form a semi-solid paste.
Ingredients -
For Zunka :
- 1 cup Gram flour (Besan)
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp Garlic and Ginger paste
- 1 tsp Dhania powder (coriander powder)
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2-3 chili or 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 chopped tomato
- 5-6 Curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp oil for tempering
- Coriander leaves finely chopped
Method 1-
- Add 1 cup of water in gram flour and make smooth paste.
- Now Heat oil in a cooking pot, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds. As both seeds crack up add garlic paste and ginger paste.
- Add chopped onion. fry till the onion turn light pink. Add curry leaves.
- Now Add turmeric and red chili powder/chili.
- Add tomato and cook for 3-4 minutes.
- Now add the gram flour mixture, salt and add a cup (or more) of water to reduce the consistency.
- Mix constantly. Bring it to boil.
- Serve hot with coriander, onion and bhakar.
- Heat oil in a cooking pot, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds. As both seeds crack up add garlic paste and ginger paste.
- Add chopped onion. fry till the onion turn light pink.
- Add curry leaves.
- Now Add turmeric and red chili powder/chili.
- Add tomato and cook for 3-4 minutes.
- Add a 3 cup of water and salt and bring it to boil.
- Now Add gram flour and mix well(whisk till there is no lumps). and cook for 4-5 min.
- Serve hot with coriander, onion and bhakar.
